The Position
The Tax Technical Director is responsible for the delivery and for providing strategic leadership and technical direction to the firm’s tax professionals across the country. You will be responsible for ensuring that the firm’s tax professionals are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver high quality tax services to clients. You will work closely with other leaders in the tax practice, as well as with partners and directors across the firm, to develop and implement tax policies procedures and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
The position will entail a broad array of responsibilities within the areas of technical support, quality assurance and brand initiatives;
- Provision of tax technical support /review / advice to all tax service lines;
- Updating partners and staff on tax developments and development and delivery of training programs;
- Develop and maintain tax procedures and checklists;
- Develop best practice processes and risk management;
- Prepare client tax alerts and coordinate the national budget analysis;
- Generate media interest and PR opportunities by providing input to and review of technical press releases/media;
- Support all tax partners in their own initiatives and with respect to specific client deliverables, queries and thought leadership;
- A willingness to engage in professional, robust and challenging discussions with directors throughout the Firm as well as have the ability to build and maintain relationships with key clients and industry organisations to stay abreast of industry trends and best practice;
- Annual reviews of the quality assurance work programs, policies and findings from third party quality inspection;
- Collaborate with the firm’s marketing and business development team to develop and execute thorough leadership and marketing strategies that highlight the firm’s tax technical capabilities as well as representing the firm at professional industry conferences.
Desired Experience and Attributes
- Degree in Commerce, Law or Accounting;
- Admitted Solicitor, Chartered Accountant, or CPA qualification is a pre-requisite. The Masters of Tax would present a significant advantage;
- The appointee will have extensive experience in a sophisticated advisory firm;
- A minimum of 12 years experience in the provision of taxation advice;
- A track record and reputation for possession of an exceptional grasp of the Malaysian taxation community and the Malaysian and global tax landscape;
- A proactive and mature approach to ‘making the role your own’ and adding value to the firm and the firm’s clients
Responsibilities

- Advice preparation and research in relation to cross border tax and transfer pricing issues
- Provide sign off, leadership and guidance to other members of the team through professional supervision.
